I mentioned to Lisa that I wanted to go on a fly-fishing trip to New Mexico’s San Juan River with my friend Whitey, then said “by the way why don’t you come along also?” Lisa who is extremely tolerant of my doings politly said “no” you should go with your friends. however being the  dumb ass that I am did not pick up on her disappointment and then it registered.Everything we do circles around our business and where I am at.It is never just the two of us.I said “screw it” to the San Juan River,Lisa and I headed to the Arizona’s White Mountains with Lake and small stream Fly-fishing on my mind .

Off we headed into a part of the State I have never been to,we hit Becker Lake on our first day of fishing and where literally blown off. The wind made casting  tough go for Lisa, who despite being married  to a guide really does not get the opportunity she deserves to get out and fish as distance separates us during our guide  season. But she sticks at it and easy happy being just there.

Day two saw us back at it this time we stuck close to our cabin and explored a couple of ponds on the ranch, we hooked a few including a nice brown trout that was my first trout (there have been plenty of Bass)t caught in Arizona then the 50 mph winds came up so we packed it in.

On day three  the wind dropped saw us heading over to some private ponds that our friend and well known Arizona Fly-Fishing Guide  Cinda Howard put us on to,of course we caught a ton of rainbows,it was perfect for Lisa as over the next  few hours she had apple opportunity to work on her fly-casting,hooking, playing then releasing fish.It was a perfect setup. As much as I sometimes snub trout ponds, they serve a purpose in our  case it was a perfect confidence builder for Lisa or any novice for that matter  as she could just do her own thing and figure it out on her own.

Later that day I hit the creek that flows thru the X-Diamond Ranch, it to produced a few decent rainbows and a small brown.A perfect way to end a fishing trip.On the way home we drove by several Lakes Lisa  asked about stopping and fishing  a few of them which we didn’t but I was stoked to see her enthusiasim grow now she really has the bug!
