Awesome August Fly-Fishing Opportunities
While conditions in the Rocky Mountain West can be to warm to fish during the month of August this is a non-issue on these two rivers. The Kootenai River is a bottom draw Blue Ribbon Tailwater fishery which means consistent flows of cold water throughout the season. The Elk River is an Alpine Trout Stream with a Glacier as it’s source.Like The Kootenai River it to remains cold throughout the season.August coincides with terrestrial fishing ..namely Hoppers and we want you to take full advantage of that.

The Kootenai River in N.W. Montana is a large Tailwater that meets the criteria to be classified as a “Blue Ribbon Trout River” because it is home to a excellent population of Native Redband Rainbow Trout in the 12 to 16 inches with some 20 inch fish thrown in.Bull Trout are also in the system. The Kootenai River is perfect for those who love to fish Dry Flies. It’s long smooth slicks and pools are prefect for getting perfect drifts and enticing the always eager Trout.

The Elk River is a Freestone Tributary to the Kootenai River located in S.E. British Columbia. The Elk River is home to a self sustaining population of Westslope Cutthroat and Bull Trout. The later can be targeted by fishing streamer patterns. The Elk is best known for it’s off the charts Dry Fly Fishing to eagerly rising Cutthroats that average 15 inches. We have chosen the below dates as they correspond with great hopper fishing.
