Fishing Streamers on Alberta’s Bow River (or any river for that matter) is extremely productive and requires a variety of tactics, necessitating a few different fly lines, including Floating and Sink Tip Lines.

Sink Tip Fly-Lines for The Bow River
River conditions and Fly selection usually determine the line to use. When The Bow River is high and starting to drop from runoff I am generally fishing a Scientific Anglers 25 ft Sonar Titan (cold 250 grain ) tip which I really like and which gives me more control over my retrieves than a full sinking streamer line. Last Season A friend recommended I try the Scientific Anglers 240 Grain Trout Express, He was fishing with it and really liked the control he had over the line. I ended up buying it and hands down, it’s a great streamer line.

Here’s why. At 240 grains for a 7wt it gets down fast and the 16-foot tip makes it easier to control or stay connected compared to the 25-foot tip. It also loads and casts well. As a Bow River Fly-Fishing Guide, it’s beneficial for clients to Fish Streamers especially if they want to catch Big Browns which the Bow River is famous for. This is a easy Fly Line for clients new to Streamer fishing to use and cast. If you are looking for a great sink tip check out this line.
