Arizona Quail Slam
Despite the warm & dry conditions we have been sucking it up and getting at it. Tough on some days and better on others. It boils down to hoping that the stars align for the day out in the field.

At the end of the day the Birds are there, decent amounts of Scaled and Gambels Coveys on any given day can be found only for us to be hosed the next day. So what is going on ? The scenting conditions suck ….period. Like many places in the West Arizona needs a little moisture.

A hard earned Arizona Gambels Quail
There is plenty of indication to validate a bit of a recovery on Mearns Quail ,Lots of diggings and again when conditions are right a decent amount of finds.

Arizona Scaled Quail
The same holds true for Gambels and Scaled Quail. When walking the washes there are quail tracks all over the place not to mention Road Covey sightings are also up and when things are right we can have some good dog on these birds.

It all boils down to being out there and hoping it happens …which it can. In the meantime we will continue to do our collective rain dances and keep putting dogs on the ground in hopes of contacts. After all this is Wild Bird Hunting and there may not be a next year.
