Two years ago I purchased a 12 Bore Side Lock choked Skeet 1 and Skeet 2.Now that I have had a couple of seasons shooting it I am impressed with the versatility of the gun. From the open Plains of Saskatchewan to the relatively tight shooting of Arizona’s Mearns Country this choke configuration has surpassed my expectations as an all around choke combination.

Skeet 1(or just Skeet) is tighter than Cylinder but more open than Improved Cylinder where as Skeet 2 is another name for Light Modified,so it is a little tighter than Improved Cylinder. The result is a choke configuration that is more versatile than the classic Improved Cylinder and Modified Combo which by all accounts appears to be the standard for fixed choked Double Guns.

Today’s Shotgun Shells are a vast improvement from the old days, namely due to better wads which improves patterns at longer ranges.Hunters can now get away with more open choked guns and are not sacrificing stopping power. If you have a fixed choked gun maybe its time to open it up or perhaps get a new gun … this could be your excuse !
